A little more kindness, a little less judgement ....

Good evening lovely people, I hope you've all had a good week. It's been a busy week here with lots of writing and celebrating my lovely mum's birthday - Happy birthday for yesterday mum!

This week I want to talk to you all about judgement. This week I've experienced judgement from all angles.

'They tell you to be yourself and then they judge you'.

Recently, I've seen that people think they have a right to comment on others lives. This includes looks, lifestyle choices and decisions made. I'm sorry, but how is that ok?

The saying 'YOLO' (You Only Live Once) is very fitting. Yes, you only live once. So why should we live a life worrying about what other people think? Anyone who knows me will know I've never been afraid to make my own decisions (even if they're not always the most sensible) and I've always stood up for what I believe in. However, there's a difference between being confident enough to speak your mind, and just being purely unkind.

A comment on a social media post or unwanted advice might be seen as harmless to the person saying it. But there's always a receiver. Although I come across as having a hard exterior, like everyone, words do still affect me. I mentioned in my first ever post on this blog that I'd been labelled years ago and that those comments still echo round my head. However what I'm learning is that those labels were just judgement. I was judged by people that didn't know me.

So I ask you now, think before you write that comment on Facebook. Think before you criticise someone's lifestyle. As what might be deemed as "advice" or "constructive criticism", could be seen as judgement by the receiver. And that could impact them more than you realise. And to all those people that have ever been judged - I'm sorry! But like I mentioned earlier, you only live once. Live your life how you want to. Doesn't matter what age you are, what gender you are, whether you're gay or straight, whether you're having a good day or a bad day. Do what makes you happy. And remember .... It's okay!

Much love, Laura xxxx
